Midwest Memorial Group allows people to come into the cemetery to play Pokemon Go. Not only that, but they told WDIV in Detroit that they plan on installing signs that welcome players to the cemetery. I can't believe this, it sickens me.  Someone close to me, that died far too young is buried there, and has had his grave vandalized 4 times. A cemetery is a place for mourning and remembering the life of the deceased, not a place to play games on people's loved ones graves.

It's one thing for a cemetery to have a policy allowing that before you purchase your plot, but to change policies after buying it and having a loved one buried there, without asking for input from families disgusts me. What can Midwest Memorial Group possibly gain from a policy like this?

His grave has already been vandalized 4 times since he was buried nearly 2 years ago, and MMG doesn't do anything to ensure security there. The gate is never closed or locked to keep people out.

  • Very nice cemetery. The grounds are well kept and there are a lot of statues and other stonework to look at. Grounds are great for walking with plenty of canopy overhead.

  • Personally I love this place. I have family buried here. I love the fact that they have opened it for Pokemon goers that are respectful. It gives people the opportunity to teach their children about our heritage. You might me ask how. Well let me explain.
I took my child there not only to visit her family but to show and teach her about my life. You see I lived right next to the cemetery as a child. I was able to share that part of my life and to show her graves that have not been visited for a while. She was saddened by the number of graves that were not visited and she wanted to visit everyone.
Not only that, but it gave us an opportunity to speak on life and death. I was able to find out that she would love to have her mother buried instead of what I wanted. I want to be cremated. But she stated that sge wants to be able to visit me at my final resting place. So you see if you do things correctly and raise your children right then they will not be disrespecting any grave sites or any family members of the decease while playing a game.
Not to mention it gives life to a place that is otherwise quite. I have been here on many occasions in the past and I can honestly say that I would prefer to see people here. It brings it too life. Because before there was only a hand full of people there when I went to visit before.
